Power Mech Projects Limited (PMPL) has announced securing its first construction project in the critical nuclear power sector. The company has been awarded an order valued at Rs 563.23 crore from BHEL – Power Sector Southern Region for Civil, Structural, and Architectural works of the Turbine Island package of 2 x 700 MWe, PHWR, Kaiga Atomic Power Project (Units 5 and 6) in Uttar Kannada District, Karnataka.
In a regulatory filing, the company expressed excitement about the opportunity, stating that it represents a significant step forward for PMPL’s diversification into a new sector and its commitment to supporting the country’s energy infrastructure. The scope of work encompasses various segments covering civil, electrical, and structural works, including TG building, foundation for all equipment, chemical lab, storage tanks, peripheral drains, sewage network, stormwater drains, culverts, plinth protection, pipes and cable bay, condenser cooling water pipes, plumbing and sanitary works, among others.
Sajja Kishore Babu, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPL, hailed the achievement as historic, emphasizing the company’s proven credibility and continuous track record in managing complex projects. He highlighted PMPL’s ability to meet stringent quality and safety requirements in the nuclear power industry. “In securing this project, another door opens for PMPL to further establish itself in the nuclear power sector and contribute to the nation’s growing sustainable energy needs,” he added.
Despite nuclear power currently contributing only 3 per cent to the national grid, the government aims to triple the capacity to 22,480 MW by 2031, making it nearly 9 per cent of electricity generation by 2047. Babu expressed pride in contributing to the growth of the nuclear power sector in the country and conveyed confidence in undertaking more projects aligned with PMPL’s ambitious tradition.
The order from BHEL underscores PMPL’s growing presence and expertise in the energy sector, reinforcing its position as a key player in India’s infrastructure development.
