Power Grid Corporation Board Green Lights Investments of Rs 656 Crore

The Power Grid Corporation, a state-owned entity, has announced that its board had given the green light for investments totaling approximately Rs 656 crore. These funds are earmarked for the execution of various electricity transmission projects across the country.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) is a Maharatna public sector enterprise that operates as an electric utility company in India. Established in 1989, it is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. Power Grid is involved in the transmission of electricity across India and is responsible for the country’s interstate transmission system.

The company plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient transmission of electricity, helping to maintain a stable power supply across the nation. Power Grid is known for its robust infrastructure, innovative technologies, and commitment to sustainability.

It has been instrumental in implementing several major power transmission projects, contributing significantly to India’s power sector development. Power Grid is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE).

A recent filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) indicated that both the Board of Directors and the ‘Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects’ have given their approval for certain investments. The decisions were made during their respective meetings on February 18, 2024.

As per the filing, the Board of Directors has greenlit the implementation of the Unified Load Dispatch and Communication (ULDC) Phase-III (SCADA/EMS Upgradation Project Northern Region SLDCs). This project is expected to cost approximately Rs 514.66 crore and is slated for commissioning by November 15, 2025.

Additionally, the Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects has approved the augmentation of a 765/400 kV, 1500 MVA transformer (4th) at Bhiwani. This project is estimated to cost around Rs 141.09 crore and is scheduled to be commissioned by May 5, 2025.
