PM Modi to Unveil NTPC’s Unit-1 (660 MW) of NKSTPP

Thermal-Power-Project

PM Modi is set to inaugurate Unit-1 of the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (NKSTPP), a 660 MW capacity installation developed by NTPC. This project, constructed with an investment totaling Rs 7526 crore, is located in the Chatra district of Jharkhand and plays a crucial role in India’s energy infrastructure.

NTPC Limited (formerly National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) is India’s largest energy conglomerate, involved in the generation and distribution of electricity. Established in 1975, NTPC has played a crucial role in the development of India’s power sector, contributing significantly to the country’s energy security and economic growth.

The company operates coal-based, gas-based, hydroelectric, and renewable energy projects, with a total installed capacity of over 65,000 MW. NTPC is committed to sustainable development and has implemented various initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and promote clean energy.

NKSTPP is designed with a total capacity of 1980 MW spread across three units, making it India’s first Supercritical Thermal Power Project with an Air Cooled Condenser (ACC). This innovative design significantly reduces water consumption compared to traditional Water-Cooled Condensers.

Being a pit-head project, NKSTPP aims to supply a significant portion of its generated power to states such as Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal, ensuring the availability of high-quality, affordable electricity in the eastern region at all times.

The PM Modi’s inauguration marks the official start of the project, and the commissioning of Unit-01 signifies a significant milestone in India’s energy landscape. Apart from its energy contributions, the project has created job opportunities and launched several community development programs that emphasize education, sanitation, healthcare, and women’s empowerment.

Furthermore, NTPC’s initiatives have improved both the physical and social infrastructure in the nearby areas, including upgrades to roads, drainage systems, communication, and healthcare facilities. The inauguration of Unit-01 highlights the government’s dedication to strengthening the nation’s power sector while promoting comprehensive development in nearby communities.
