Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the Piaggio Group, has expanded its electric mobility portfolio with the launch of the Apé WavE, a new electric passenger three-wheeler designed for the affordable L3 segment. Priced from ₹2.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the vehicle aims to provide a balance of low ownership costs, dependable performance and enhanced passenger comfort for urban and semi-urban transport applications.

The Apé WavE has been developed to address the growing demand for cost-effective electric passenger vehicles used in shared mobility services, fixed-route operations and short-distance transportation. The company says the model combines the affordability of the L3 category with features and ride quality generally associated with higher-segment passenger vehicles, making it an attractive option for individual operators as well as fleet owners.

The launch builds on Piaggio’s experience in India’s electric three-wheeler market, following products such as the Apé E-City, Apé E-City FX, Apé E-City Maxx and Apé E-City Ultra. With the introduction of the Apé WavE, the company aims to further strengthen its presence in the country’s fast-growing electric mobility market by offering a practical solution tailored to Indian operating conditions.

The vehicle is powered by a 5.4 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor delivering a peak output of 3 kW and 25 Nm of torque. It offers a top speed of 40 kmph, a gradeability of 19 per cent and a real-world driving range of approximately 90 km (±5 km) on a single charge. The battery can be fully charged in around 4.5 hours, making it suitable for daily passenger transport operations.

Built with a monocoque chassis and a full-metal body, the Apé WavE has been engineered to deliver durability while enhancing occupant safety. A passenger-focused suspension system, low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels, 180 mm ground clearance and a spacious cabin are designed to improve ride comfort across varying road conditions. The vehicle has also been developed with low maintenance requirements to help improve earning potential for operators.

Commenting on the launch, Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director of Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, said, “India’s electric passenger mobility market is evolving rapidly, with customers seeking reliable and economical transportation solutions. The Apé WavE has been developed to deliver affordable ownership without compromising on comfort, safety or operational efficiency. It reflects our continued commitment to supporting sustainable mobility while creating better livelihood opportunities for transport operators.”

Amit Sagar, Executive Vice President, CV Domestic Business and Retail Finance, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, said the new model has been designed to meet the needs of customers looking for an optimal combination of purchase price, operating efficiency and passenger comfort. He added that the vehicle’s robust construction, low maintenance costs and established Apé brand reliability are expected to make it a compelling choice in the passenger electric three-wheeler segment.

The launch of the Apé WavE further reinforces Piaggio’s position in India’s growing electric mobility market by providing customers with a dependable, cost-effective and environmentally responsible transportation solution backed by the trusted legacy of the Apé brand. The vehicle will be available through Piaggio dealerships across the country at a starting ex-showroom price of ₹2,55,000.
