PepsiCo India announced its intention to invest Rs 1,266 crore in establishing a flavor manufacturing plant in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, as part of its expansion strategy in the country. The facility, which will cover 22 acres, is expected to significantly increase PepsiCo’s beverage production capacity in India, creating job opportunities and positively impacting the local economy.
Construction of the new plant is scheduled to commence in 2024, with operations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026. “With the support of the Madhya Pradesh government, we are committed to expanding our presence and driving meaningful progress in the region’s socio-economic development,” said Jagrut Kotecha, CEO of PepsiCo India & South Asia. George Kovoor, Senior Vice President of Beverages at PepsiCo India, stated that the new facility will be the company’s second flavor manufacturing plant in India.
“We’re committed to increasing the production of our beverages to meet the growing demand in the country. This strategic investment demonstrates our dedication to delivering the highest quality beverages to our customers, while also highlighting our commitment to promoting sustainable practices in all aspects of our operations,” Kovoor remarked.
PepsiCo’s initial flavor production facility in India is located in Channo, Punjab. The company stated that in alignment with its global sustainability objectives, the new manufacturing facility will operate solely on renewable energy sources, resulting in a notable daily reduction of 1.9 metric tonnes in carbon emissions.
Utilizing zero liquid discharge technology, the plant aims to achieve around 90 percent overall water efficiency, promoting responsible water resource management by replenishing 100 percent of the water consumed on-site, the company noted.
