Ola Electric has announced that its S1 X+ electric scooter with a 5.2 kWh battery pack has received certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989 from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Manesar. The approval marks a major milestone for the company as the scooter becomes the first mass-market model in its portfolio to feature the company’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell technology.
The newly certified S1 X+ 5.2 kWh is now the longest-range scooter in Ola Electric’s mass-market lineup, offering an IDC-certified range of 320 kilometres on a single charge. Designed to cater to everyday commuters as well as long-distance riders, the scooter combines high efficiency, strong performance, and enhanced safety features aimed at accelerating electric vehicle adoption across India.
According to the company, the scooter is powered by an 11 kW mid-drive motor integrated with a Motor Control Unit (MCU), enabling a top speed of 125 km/h. The in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack is engineered to deliver improved energy density and advanced thermal management, helping improve both vehicle performance and reliability.
A spokesperson for Ola Electric stated that the certification reflects the company’s commitment to making advanced EV technology more accessible to a broader customer base. The spokesperson added that the introduction of Bharat Cell technology into the mass-market segment is expected to support the wider adoption of electric mobility, particularly in non-metro regions where range and affordability remain key considerations for consumers.
The certification was granted after the scooter successfully completed an extensive validation programme conducted by ICAT. The testing process included assessments related to vehicle construction, functional safety, performance, regulatory compliance, and range verification, ensuring that the model meets all prescribed safety and operational standards under CMVR regulations. With the approval of the S1 X+ 5.2 kWh, Ola Electric continues to strengthen its vertically integrated EV ecosystem that spans battery cell research, battery pack engineering, vehicle design, and manufacturing operations.
