Ola Electric has launched the new S1Z electric scooter range, bringing its indigenously developed Bharat Cell LFP battery technology to the mass market for the first time. The S1Z is available in 3.1 kWh and 5.1 kWh variants, priced at introductory levels of ₹79,999 and ₹99,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. The two versions offer claimed IDC ranges of up to 179 km and 301 km.

The S1Z uses Ola Electric’s 46-series LFP cell platform, developed at its Battery Innovation Centre and manufactured at the company’s Ola Gigafactory. By producing the battery cells in-house, Ola Electric aims to reduce battery costs and make its latest battery technology available at more accessible price points. The company said the S1Z has been developed for customers in India’s value-focused electric scooter segment, while retaining features related to safety, performance and connected technology.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Ola Electric, said the S1Z demonstrates how the company’s indigenous battery technology can reach a wider customer base. “The true measure of innovation of our indigenous Bharat Cell LFP technology is how quickly it reaches everyday Indians. The S1Z delivers on that promise. It is the first scooter range to bring our made-in-India LFP technology to the heart of the market, where millions of customers make their mobility decisions,” Mr Aggarwal said.

The S1Z is powered by MoveOS 5 and comes with a range of connected and software-based features. These include cruise control, advanced regenerative braking, reverse mode, GPS and over-the-air software updates. The scooter also offers geo, time and mode fencing, ride statistics and energy information through the Ola Electric App. Another feature, Easy Park, is designed to help riders manoeuvre the scooter into and out of tight parking spaces.

The S1Z will be offered in four colours: White, Anthracite, Sky Splash Blue and Matcha Green. Both variants use 12-inch wheels. Deliveries of the 3.1 kWh version are scheduled to begin in December 2026, while deliveries of the 5.1 kWh variant are expected to start in March 2027.

The launch marks an important step in Ola Electric’s strategy of using vertical integration to control key parts of its EV value chain, from battery cells and packs to vehicle production and software. The company is also expanding its retail network. The S1Z will be the first product range to be rolled out through Ola Electric’s next phase of retail expansion, which includes dealer-operated stores alongside its existing company-owned network.

Ola Electric manufactures electric vehicles and key components at its Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. Its operations include battery packs, motors and vehicle frames, while its Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru focuses on cell and battery development. The company’s research and development operations span India, the UK and the US. Ola Electric is also developing an integrated EV manufacturing hub in Tamil Nadu, comprising the Futurefactory and Gigafactory. With the S1Z, Ola Electric aims to bring locally developed LFP battery technology to a larger section of India’s electric two-wheeler market while expanding access to its products through a wider retail network.
