Okamoto India Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Technology Centre in Pune

Okamoto Machine Tool Works, Ltd, a global leader in precision grinding and polishing solutions, has officially opened its new Technology Centre in Viman Nagar, Pune, marking a significant milestone in its Indian expansion strategy. The centre was inaugurated by Kumaran Pakiri, Managing Director of Okamoto India, and Tsuneyuki Ishii, Chairman of Okamoto Machine Tool Works, Ltd. The new technology centre emphasised the group’s shared vision for empowering India’s manufacturing sector with world-class grinding technologies.

The inaugural session was attended by many industry leaders, along with Okamoto’s senior leadership from across the region: Tetsuyuki Watanabe, Managing Director of Okamoto Thai; Gyo Ito, Managing Executive Officer & General Manager, Technical Development & Sales, Okamoto Machine Tool Works; David Tay, Executive Director of Okamoto Singapore; alongside the local and regional team represented by Shriraj Keskar, General Manager of Okamoto India.

In his welcome address, P Kumaran thanked all customers and Okamoto senior leadership for taking the time to be part of the inauguration. “We started selling our first products into India with our friend and partner, HEI”, shared Mr Kumaran. He also thanked all his colleagues in India for making their journey successful in the country.

“We are Okamoto Machine Tool Works in Japan, and we were established in 1935; so this year we will be 90-years old. We have delivered 80000 machines to 20000 customers in 80 countries worldwide”, said Tsuneyuki Ishii, Chairman of Okamoto Machine Tool Works, addressing the audience.

Tetsuyuki Watanabe, Managing Director of Okamoto (Thai), emphasised the importance of India’s semiconductor sector to industrial growth and noted, “The new Tech Centre will enhance customer experience by providing faster service, demonstrations, training, and customised solutions.” George Ito, Director of Singapore, also expressed enthusiasm, “I’m quite happy to open the Technical Centre here in Pune. We expect the Indian market will grow and grow, and this centre will be an excellent hub for demonstrations and customer engagement.”

Okamoto Machine Tool Works, founded in November 1926 and incorporated in June 1935, is renowned for its surface, form, cylindrical, internal, and gear grinders, as well as semiconductor-related equipment. Okamoto India, established in October 2021 and headquartered in Pune, will leverage this new facility to deliver localised training, demonstrations, and rapid after-sales support. With this Technology Centre, Okamoto reaffirms its vision of empowering Indian manufacturing with world-class precision grinding technologies and strengthens its commitment to the subcontinent’s fast-growing industrial sector.
