NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and Saudi Arabia’s stc group have launched an Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solution for Komatsu Ltd’s construction equipment in Saudi Arabia. The service is designed to meet the Kingdom’s telecommunications regulations while supporting Komatsu’s expansion of connected equipment services.
Komatsu operates construction equipment across Saudi Arabia and uses Komtrax, its telematics and remote monitoring system, to collect operational data wirelessly. The system enables equipment owners and operators to monitor machinery, analyse performance and support predictive maintenance. These capabilities can improve equipment utilisation, operational efficiency and maintenance planning.
As Komatsu expands its connected services internationally, reliable local connectivity is required to support the collection and management of equipment data in markets with specific telecommunications requirements. NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and stc group have partnered to provide connectivity that meets Saudi Arabia’s regulatory framework.
NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS was responsible for designing the solution and managing its end-to-end delivery. stc group contributed its local market expertise, connectivity services and technology infrastructure, including SIM cards and a Connectivity Management Platform (CMP).
The solution has three main components. First, it establishes a contractual and operational framework to address local telecommunications regulations, supported by connectivity services provided within Saudi Arabia by stc group. Second, it uses stc group’s network and CMP to provide reliable, scalable connectivity for Komatsu equipment across the Kingdom. The platform supports the collection and management of telemetry data from machinery operating across different locations.
Third, NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS provides support across the delivery process, from solution design and implementation to ongoing operations. This approach is intended to help Komatsu meet country-specific requirements while limiting changes to its existing connectivity model. The companies said the partnership reflects the need for coordinated support between global technology providers and local telecommunications operators as connected equipment services expand across international markets.
NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS plans to continue working with global IoT service providers and local telecommunications companies to develop connectivity solutions that meet regulatory and technical requirements in different countries. The company is also developing its service platform under its AI-Centric ICT Platform vision to address IoT requirements associated with the growth of artificial intelligence. As part of this effort, it is strengthening docomo business SIGN, its secure Network as a Service solution for IoT, through a new global-ready Pro plan.
These services are intended to support manufacturers of construction equipment, automotive products and other connected devices as they expand digital services across markets. NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc is a Japan-based global information and communications technology solutions provider. The company works with businesses and communities on digital transformation initiatives across industries and regions.
