NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has launched NORDAC FUSION, a compact drive system that combines a motor and frequency inverter in a single unit. Designed for applications where space, installation time and operating efficiency are important, the new system delivers high power density while keeping the overall installation footprint small.
NORDAC FUSION is designed as a ready-to-use solution. The motor and inverter are electrically and mechanically matched, reducing the need for extensive component selection and parameterisation. This allows users to install and commission the drive quickly while maintaining consistent performance.
The system is particularly suited to highly automated logistics and conveyor applications. Its decentralised design allows the drive to be mounted directly on the machine or conveyor unit, reducing the need for central control cabinets and lowering wiring requirements. This can simplify engineering and speed up commissioning across complete conveyor systems.
NORDAC FUSION is available with IE3 asynchronous motors and IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors in ventilated and unventilated versions. Combined with the decentralised NORDAC ON frequency inverter, the available motor and inverter combinations cover a power range from 0.31 kW to 3.7 kW. The system can also be combined with gear units from NORD’s modular range.
The NORDAC ON inverter features a compact design and full plug-in capability. An integrated PLC and multi-protocol Ethernet interface support PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT. These communication options can be configured through parameters, making the system suitable for different automation environments.
Safety functions are also integrated into the drive system. Along with STO and SS1, the NORDAC ON series supports motion monitoring functions including SLS, SMS and SSM. These functions can be integrated into safety applications through PROFIsafe or FSoE. Safe digital inputs and outputs also allow devices such as emergency stop buttons, safety door switches and photoelectric sensors to be connected directly.
NORDAC FUSION also supports encoderless control with NORD’s IE5+ synchronous motors. Using the CFC open-loop injection method, rotor position and speed can be detected without additional sensors. This provides a simpler and economical solution for dynamic applications.
The IE5+ motors deliver efficiency of up to 95 percent across a wide torque range, helping reduce energy consumption during partial-load and partial-speed operation. The system can operate at temperatures down to -30°C and can also be configured for wash-down applications in the food industry. With Ethernet connectivity, hybrid cables and daisy-chain technology, NORDAC FUSION provides a streamlined drive solution for modern automated material handling and industrial applications.
