NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer, marked the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar with a commemorative event at its Corporate Office in Hyderabad, along with celebrations at all project sites across the country.
The tribute was led by Smt. Priyadarshini Gaddam, Director (Personnel) & Director (Finance) Additional Charge, Shri B. Vishwanath, Chief Vigilance Officer, and Shri K. Praveen Kumar, Executive Director (Commercial). Together with NMDC employees, they paid homage to Dr. Ambedkar—celebrated as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social justice.
The event was organised by the NMDC Head Office SC/ST Employees Welfare Association. Shri B. Hanumantha Rao, President, and Shri B Pavan Kumar, General Secretary, along with other office bearers, played a key role in planning and conducting the program.
The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and garlanding of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait, followed by a prayer in remembrance of his legacy and ideals. Addressing the gathering, Smt Priyadarshini Gaddam highlighted the importance of inclusive growth through education. “Education is the foundation for an empowered society and was central to Dr Ambedkar’s vision. It is our duty to create equal opportunities in learning and employment, so that those who rise can help others rise with them.”
In his remarks, Shri B Vishwanath underscored Dr Ambedkar’s contribution to India’s democratic framework. “He dedicated his life to building a just and equitable nation. As we remember him today, we must continue to uphold values of transparency, accountability, and integrity. Education enables us to stand up for our rights and contribute to a fairer society.”
NMDC reiterated its commitment to promoting equality, education, and empowerment in line with Dr Ambedkar’s guiding principles. The event concluded with a cultural program and the distribution of school bags to children—reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to support education and social development.
