Nissan has announced it will continue participating in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship until at least 2030. This aligns with its Ambition 2030 plans, aiming to become a leader in electric vehicle technology.
From Season 13 (2026/27) to Season 16 (2029/30), Nissan will use the new GEN4 technology in Formula E, which will be the most advanced yet. The GEN4 cars will feature improved energy efficiency and higher power output, making them a key part of Nissan’s strategy.
At a press conference in Tokyo, Nissan Formula E Team’s managing director, Tommaso Volpe, signed the official registration document for the upcoming seasons. This makes Nissan the first company to commit to the GEN4 era of Formula E, reinforcing its long-term dedication to electric vehicle racing.
Nissan’s involvement in Formula E will help develop and test new electric vehicle technologies. This supports Nissan’s Ambition 2030 plan, which includes launching 34 electrified models by 2030 and aiming for electrified vehicles to make up 60% of its global sales by the end of the decade.
Nissan’s CEO, Makoto Uchida, expressed excitement about the continued participation in Formula E, highlighting how the racing series contributes to Nissan’s electrification goals. Tommaso Volpe also emphasized the importance of Formula E as a testing ground for new technologies and expressed pride in being the first company to commit until 2030.
Nissan will also continue to promote its electric vehicle technology globally, leveraging its presence in all countries on the Formula E calendar. This commitment reflects Nissan’s goal to make electric vehicles accessible worldwide and contribute to a cleaner, safer future.
Formula E’s CEO, Jeff Dodds, and FIA’s Senior Circuit Sport Director, Marek Nawarecki, both praised Nissan’s continued involvement, emphasizing the shared values of promoting sustainability and advancing electric vehicle technology. They look forward to the bright future of electric racing with Nissan as a key player.
