Nidec opens technical center to strengthen collaborative innovation in machine tools

manufacturing news

Nidec Corporation has inaugurated a new Technical Center in Ritto City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, aimed at strengthening collaboration and innovation within its machine tool operations. The facility brings together the combined expertise of four companies within Nidec’s Machine Tool Business Unit—Nidec Machine Tool Corporation, Nidec OKK Corporation, PAMA SpA and Takisawa Machine Tool Co, Ltd.

The Technical Center houses an extensive lineup of 30 machine tools and related technologies. Beyond serving as a demonstration space, it has been positioned as a collaborative innovation hub focused on addressing customer manufacturing challenges. Services offered include machining validation, support for mass production start-ups, process optimization and workforce development.

Several of Nidec Machine Tool’s systems will also be deployed at the reducer prototype factory located at the same Shiga site, as well as at a new high-precision, high-speed press machine factory scheduled to begin operations in April. This integration will enable closer cooperation across Nidec’s machine tool, press machine and reducer businesses, enhancing synergies in manufacturing and development.

As manufacturing environments face growing complexity—driven by advanced component designs, changing work conditions and increasing environmental considerations—Nidec aims to work more closely with customers to develop practical machining solutions. The Technical Center represents the first step in this approach, with plans to establish similar facilities overseas. Through this initiative, Nidec’s machine tool companies will combine their technological strengths to offer comprehensive solutions while deepening long-term partnerships with customers across industries.

The Technical Center is designed to give customers direct exposure to advanced machining technologies through live demonstrations of the latest machine tools and automation systems. Visitors can observe real-time machining processes, evaluate equipment performance and conduct machining trials or prototyping to validate concepts, refine designs and determine optimal conditions for mass production.

In addition, the center provides end-to-end support by developing customized process and system solutions based on specific production requirements, including automation planning. It also serves as a learning environment, offering practical, hands-on training in machine operation, technology applications and maintenance to strengthen shopfloor skills and improve manufacturing efficiency.

Nidec is a leading global motor manufacturer, with products ranging from small precision motors to large industrial systems. Its technologies support applications across IT, automotive, industrial and commercial sectors, backed by operations in 46 countries and a network of approximately 340 group companies.
