New Aerotech Drives Expand Access to Advanced Hexapod Motion Control

Manufacturing-News

Aerotech Inc, a global authority in precision motion and automation technology, has introduced its latest Automation1-HXA4 and Automation1-iHXA4 drives for six-axis hexapod systems. These compact units allow engineers to operate a hexapod just like any other axis within the Automation1 motion control network, simplifying system architecture while maintaining high accuracy and responsiveness. By combining strong performance with competitive pricing, the new drives open the door for wider adoption of advanced hexapod control in multiple industries.

“We created the Automation1-HXA4 and Automation1-iHXA4 to simplify multi-axis coordination for users,” said Brian Fink, Product Manager at Aerotech. “The goal is to help more industries achieve top-tier hexapod performance at a cost that fits their operations.”

The drives are engineered to elevate the capabilities of Aerotech’s latest-generation hexapods, including models such as the HEX150-125HL. They integrate seamlessly into the Automation1 platform, which includes development tools, motion controllers, motor drives, the HyperWire® fiber-optic communication bus, and a full automation ecosystem. The Automation1-HXA4 combines both controller and drive in a single package, offering a streamlined solution.

The new drives come with a range of practical advantages designed to streamline setup and enhance performance. Their compact form factor helps reduce control panel space requirements, making integration into existing layouts much easier. Connectivity is also simplified, with each hexapod requiring just two connectors and benefiting from robust built-in analog and digital I/O options. These elements work together to reduce wiring complexity and support faster, cleaner installation.

On the performance side, the drives incorporate advanced control technologies such as Part-Speed Position-Synchronized Output (PSO) and Safe Torque Off (STO), ensuring high precision and improved operational safety. By allowing hexapods to function like any other axis within a motion system, they enable smooth coordination across multi-axis setups. The combination of strong technical capability and cost-efficient design makes these drives an attractive option for organizations looking to bring high-accuracy hexapod control within reach.

Since its founding in 1970, Aerotech has been at the forefront of precision motion control, offering everything from standard positioning systems to fully customized automation solutions. Its technologies support cutting-edge manufacturing, inspection and research applications at micro- and nanoscale precision across industries such as aerospace, electronics, medical devices and advanced instrumentation.
