Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SAMIL), through its energy-focused subsidiary Motherson New Energy Limited (MNEL), has commissioned its first ground-mounted captive solar power project in Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing the group’s commitment to sustainability, energy security and industrial decarbonization. Developed through subsidiary Onega Solar Private Limited, the 15 MWp solar facility is located in Mahoba and will provide renewable electricity to multiple Motherson manufacturing plants across the state. The project marks an important milestone in the company’s broader strategy to integrate clean energy solutions across its global operations while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

Designed as a group captive renewable energy project, the solar installation is expected to generate approximately 23.4 GWh of electricity annually. The project is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 17,000 metric tonnes each year, contributing to the company’s environmental objectives and supporting the transition toward lower-carbon manufacturing operations.

The renewable energy facility is expected to deliver benefits beyond emissions reduction. By securing access to clean power through a dedicated source, Motherson aims to enhance energy reliability, improve long-term cost predictability and strengthen operational resilience across its manufacturing network.

The project was developed in collaboration with renewable energy specialist ib vogt, which supported land acquisition, regulatory approvals, engineering design and EPC execution. The partnership enabled efficient implementation of the project while ensuring compliance with technical and environmental requirements.

Company leaders emphasized that sustainability remains a central element of Motherson’s long-term growth strategy. As global industries increasingly focus on reducing environmental impact, access to renewable energy has become a key factor in maintaining competitiveness and meeting customer expectations.

The commissioning of the Mahoba facility represents the beginning of a broader renewable energy roadmap. MNEL is actively evaluating additional renewable power opportunities across several Indian states as part of a long-term strategy to diversify energy sources and increase the share of green power within the group’s operations.

The initiative aligns with Motherson’s broader sustainability goals, including reducing carbon intensity, improving resource efficiency and supporting customers in achieving their own environmental commitments. It also complements national efforts to accelerate renewable energy adoption and strengthen energy independence.

SAMIL, one of the world’s leading automotive component suppliers, operates an extensive global manufacturing network spanning dozens of countries. As the company continues to expand into sectors beyond automotive, including aerospace, healthcare and industrial solutions, investments in renewable energy infrastructure are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting sustainable growth.
