MoRTH, Eicher Join Hands to Modernize Delhi-NCR Commercial Vehicle Fleet

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Eicher Trucks & Buses, a business unit of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the replacement of ageing commercial vehicles across the Delhi-NCR region. The initiative supports the Government of India’s efforts to improve air quality by encouraging the adoption of cleaner BS-VI and electric trucks and buses.

The partnership is part of the Scheme for Support to NCRPB for Replacement of Old Trucks and Buses in Delhi-NCR Area, which aims to phase out BS-IV and older commercial vehicles through a combination of financial incentives offered by the Central Government, participating state governments and vehicle manufacturers.

Under the agreement, Eicher Trucks & Buses will offer eligible customers an 8 percent discount on the ex-showroom price of qualifying vehicles purchased under the scheme. Fleet owners replacing older vehicles will also be eligible for additional benefits, including concessions on motor vehicle tax, registration charges, interest subvention and fuel-related incentives, subject to the scheme’s eligibility conditions.

The programme is designed to help transport operators upgrade to modern commercial vehicles that deliver improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions and enhanced operating performance. By encouraging faster fleet renewal, the initiative is expected to contribute to cleaner transportation across the National Capital Region while supporting sustainable growth in the commercial vehicle sector.

Speaking on the partnership, SS Gill, Chief Commercial Officer of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd, said Eicher Trucks & Buses has been helping customers modernize their fleets for more than four decades. He noted that the company is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in implementing a policy that promotes the replacement of older, high-emission commercial vehicles. He added that customers will benefit from incentives offered by the Government of India as well as the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan under the programme.

The scheme will be implemented through a centralized digital platform linked with MoRTH’s VAHAN database and the authorised vehicle scrapping ecosystem. The digital process will enable efficient verification of vehicle eligibility and faster processing of incentives for participating fleet owners.

Eicher Trucks & Buses has consistently introduced advanced commercial vehicles designed to improve productivity, fuel economy and environmental performance. Through this collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the company further strengthens its role in supporting India’s transition to cleaner mobility while providing customers with greater value through government-backed fleet replacement initiatives.
