Midwest Energy, the technology and clean energy arm of the Midwest Business House, has commenced commercial production at its 1.2 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. Equipped with integrated Cell-to-Container manufacturing capabilities, the new plant marks a major milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen India’s advanced energy storage manufacturing ecosystem.
The facility is designed to manufacture battery cells, modules, trays, racks and fully integrated containerised Battery Energy Storage Systems for commercial, industrial, renewable energy and utility-scale applications. With end-to-end manufacturing under one roof, the plant is expected to improve production efficiency, product quality and supply chain reliability while supporting the country’s growing demand for energy storage solutions.
The commissioning comes at a time when battery storage is becoming an essential part of modern power infrastructure. As renewable energy capacity continues to expand, energy storage systems are expected to play an increasingly important role in improving grid stability, balancing power demand and supply, and ensuring reliable electricity delivery.
The Bengaluru facility has an annual production capacity of 1.2 GWh and offers battery storage solutions ranging from 3 kWh to 6 MWh across voltage levels from 48V to 1500V. The products are intended for deployment across commercial establishments, industries, renewable energy projects and utility-scale power systems.
The manufacturing unit incorporates advanced quality assurance processes, complete product traceability and end-of-line testing to ensure consistent performance and reliability. The products have been developed in line with globally accepted standards, including UL 1973, UL 9540 and UL 9540A. The company will also offer customised battery storage solutions to meet specific customer requirements across different sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Soumya K Director, Midwest Energy Limited, said India is moving rapidly towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future with increasing dependence on renewable energy sources. He noted that while renewable power generation is expanding, it also creates challenges such as fluctuations in supply and grid stability. Battery Energy Storage Systems provide an effective solution by improving energy reliability, supporting renewable integration and enabling a more resilient power network.
He added that the new manufacturing facility strengthens the company’s ability to design, manufacture and supply advanced energy storage systems developed and produced in India. The company aims to become a long-term partner in supporting the country’s clean energy transition through indigenous technology and manufacturing capabilities.
Midwest Energy plans to supply its Battery Energy Storage Systems to customers in both domestic and international markets while expanding its portfolio of customised energy storage products. The facility has been built to support scalable production, high product reliability and globally benchmarked manufacturing standards.
Headquartered in Hyderabad, Midwest Business House has been operating since 1981 with interests in mineral exploration, mining, mineral processing, engineering and advanced materials. Through Midwest Energy, the group is expanding into Battery Energy Storage Systems, rare earth permanent magnets and critical materials that support electric mobility, renewable energy, grid infrastructure and other strategic industries.
