Southern Railway has approved a new set of works under the Amrit Bharat Scheme for the installation of Passenger Information Systems (PIS) across select stations in its Salem Division. The approved scope covers the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of modern passenger information and digital display systems at Tirupattur, Samalpatti, Morappur, Bommidi, and Salem railway stations. The project also includes a Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) for a period of five years to ensure continued system performance and reliability.
As part of the project, MIC Electronics Limited will deploy Passenger Information Systems compliant with Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) specifications. The installation will include single-line double-face platform display boards, Full HD and UHD large-format commercial displays, 4K UHD professional displays, network monitoring equipment, fibre management systems, public address system hardware, speakers, cabling, and associated civil, signalling, and telecom works. The scope further includes excavation, trenching, reinstatement of signalling and telecom assets, and deployment of skilled and unskilled manpower based on site requirements.
The total sanctioned project value is ₹56.43 lakh, covering equipment supply, installation, commissioning, allied civil and signalling works, and long-term maintenance support.
Commenting on the development, Rakshit Mathur, CEO, MIC Electronics Limited, said the project strengthens the company’s long-standing engagement with Indian Railways. He added that the deployment of advanced digital communication systems across Salem Division stations will improve real-time information dissemination and enhance passenger experience, in alignment with the objectives of the Amrit Bharat Scheme.
The initiative is expected to reinforce station-level digital infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and support Indian Railways’ broader push towards technology-driven, passenger-focused station modernisation.
