mayr® power transmission is showcasing integrated safety brake and monitoring technologies at SPS 2026, highlighting solutions designed to improve machine safety, predictive maintenance and connected automation across robotics and industrial applications. The company’s latest developments combine the ROBA® topstop® safety brake, ROBA® brake-checker® monitoring module and ROBA® gateway to create a networked braking system that enables sensorless condition monitoring while supporting digital maintenance strategies and connected production environments.

Safety brakes remain a critical component in automated production systems, robots and gravity-loaded axes, where preventing uncontrolled movement during power failures or emergency stops is essential. Built on the fail-safe principle, the ROBA® topstop® automatically applies when power is removed, holding loads securely in position.

Installed between the motor and the output, the brake can also be retrofitted into existing equipment. The compact design includes standardized plug connections and IP66 protection through sealed interfaces, allowing reliable operation in demanding industrial environments while simplifying installation and maintenance.

The accompanying ROBA® brake-checker® monitors brake performance without requiring additional sensors. By analysing current and voltage characteristics, the system detects switching times, coil temperature and functional reserves, allowing maintenance teams to identify changes before they develop into larger issues. When combined with the ROBA® gateway, this information can be integrated into remote maintenance systems and digital twin applications.

For robotic applications, mayr® continues to expand its modular ROBA® servostop® range, including the ROBA® servostop® Cobot designed for lightweight robot joints. The slim, lightweight construction allows integration into compact robotic systems while maintaining secure holding performance across multiple axis positions.

The company is also presenting customer-specific electromagnetic hollow shaft brakes developed for high-torque direct-drive motors. These brakes are designed for applications requiring a large free inner diameter, including robotics, observation systems, maritime equipment and deep-sea applications, where conventional brake designs may not fit the available installation space.

To support machine designers during development, mayr® is demonstrating its validation tool built around the B10d safety characteristic value. The tool helps engineers evaluate brake selection in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1 and DIN EN ISO 13849-2 by providing structured guidance on safety principles, component suitability and application-specific validation requirements.

Through its SPS 2026 showcase, mayr® is demonstrating how integrated safety brakes, intelligent monitoring and digital connectivity can work together to improve machine safety, simplify maintenance planning and support more connected automation environments.
