Marelli has inaugurated a new research and development facility in Bangalore, strengthening its global engineering network and reinforcing its innovation strategy across key automotive technologies. The new site, located in the city’s Embassy Manyata Tech Park, will employ approximately 350 engineers and specialists. Representatives from Marelli’s India operations and global leadership teams attended the official opening ceremony.
This latest addition builds on Marelli’s existing presence in Bangalore, where another technical center was launched in 2022. Together with its R&D hub in Gurugram, near Delhi, the company’s total engineering workforce in India now exceeds 1,200 people.
The Bangalore facility features advanced laboratories for optics, hardware development, and automotive validation, as well as collaborative areas designed to enhance teamwork, training, and innovation. These resources will support Marelli’s efforts in electronics, vehicle lighting, and propulsion technologies — covering both internal combustion and electric systems.
Engineers at the new site will work on complete product development programs for infotainment systems, instrument clusters, digital displays, body control modules, powertrain management systems, and automotive lighting solutions. The center will also partner with Marelli’s global R&D teams and customers to co-create advanced technologies for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), zonal architectures, Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT), Engine Management Systems (EMS), Battery Management Systems (BMS), and innovative lighting features.
In parallel, Marelli India is investing in additional in-house testing and validation infrastructure, enabling more product development and performance verification to be completed locally. This approach ensures higher reliability, faster innovation cycles, and stronger design control across its engineering programs.
Saju Mookken, Country Manager of Marelli India, stated “The opening of our new R&D center in Bangalore is a major step in expanding our innovation capabilities and reinforcing our commitment to excellence for our customers. This milestone reflects Marelli’s confidence in India’s engineering talent and its vital role in our global R&D network. I am proud of the teams who made this possible — their dedication has created a world-class environment for collaboration, learning, and technological advancement.”
With this launch, Marelli strengthens its position as a key player in India’s automotive landscape. The company now operates 15 production plants and three R&D centers across six cities. As India continues to grow as a global innovation and manufacturing hub, Marelli aims to deepen its local partnerships, accelerate technology development, and contribute to the evolution of sustainable mobility solutions worldwide.
