Marelli, a leading global automotive technology supplier, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Electronics manufacturing facility in Guangzhou, China, marking a major milestone in the company’s journey as a global center for innovation, advanced manufacturing and automotive electronics development. Established in 1996 as Marelli’s first manufacturing operation in China, the Guangzhou facility has evolved into one of the company’s most important electronics production and engineering centers. Over three decades, the site has played a critical role in supporting both domestic and international automotive programs while contributing significantly to Marelli’s global growth strategy.

From its beginnings with a single production line and a workforce of just over 100 employees, the Guangzhou operation has expanded into a large-scale automotive electronics campus spanning 30,000 square meters. Today, the facility employs nearly 1,000 professionals and operates 66 production lines, serving customers across multiple automotive segments and markets worldwide.

The Guangzhou plant focuses on the development, industrialization and production of next-generation automotive electronics technologies. By combining scalable product architectures with cost-efficient manufacturing capabilities, the facility supports the industry’s rapid transition toward connected, intelligent and software-defined vehicles.

One of the site’s most significant strengths lies in advanced display technologies. The facility serves as a global innovation center for Mini-LED and MicroLED display solutions that are increasingly being integrated into modern vehicle interiors. In addition, the plant develops and manufactures a broad portfolio of electronics platforms, including digital cockpits, digital instrument clusters, body control units, seat control systems, zone controllers and advanced 5G telematics solutions.

Supporting these activities is a fully integrated engineering and manufacturing model that enables seamless collaboration between product development and industrial production. The Guangzhou Engineering Center, which operates alongside the manufacturing facility, has generated more than 100 patents and continues to contribute to the advancement of automotive electronics technologies.

The plant’s manufacturing operations are driven by a highly automated and digitalized production environment designed to deliver efficiency, flexibility and consistent product quality. Advanced capabilities such as optical bonding, precision assembly technologies and intelligent production systems enable rapid industrialization of new products while maintaining strict performance standards. Sustainability also remains a central focus of the facility’s operations. Site-wide solar energy installations and energy-efficient manufacturing processes contribute to reduced environmental impact while supporting Marelli’s broader sustainability objectives.

The anniversary represents more than a celebration of past achievements. It highlights the facility’s continued role as a strategic pillar within Marelli’s global network and its readiness to support future industry transformation. As automotive technologies continue to evolve toward electrification, connectivity and intelligent mobility, the Guangzhou plant is positioned to play an increasingly important role in delivering innovative solutions to customers worldwide.

Marelli, formed when Calsonic Kansei and MagnetiMarelli merged in 2019, employs around 45,000 people and operates in more than 150 locations worldwide. The company has been increasing its footprint in China to meet rising demand for new automotive technologies. Auto Shanghai, officially called the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, is one of the biggest auto shows in the world. It gives companies a chance to introduce new ideas to China’s fast-changing car market.
