LTM, a Larsen & Toubro Group company specializing in AI-driven technology services, has unveiled AI 1000, a large-scale workforce transformation initiative designed to develop more than 1,000 AI-certified engineers and Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) capable of helping enterprises accelerate AI adoption and business transformation. The programme is anchored by a dedicated Centre of Excellence (CoE) that will focus on developing advanced AI talent equipped with both technical expertise and domain-specific business knowledge. As organizations increasingly integrate artificial intelligence into core operations, the demand for professionals capable of translating AI capabilities into measurable business outcomes has grown significantly.
At the heart of the initiative is the development of Forward Deployed Engineers, a rapidly emerging role in the enterprise AI landscape. These professionals combine expertise in large language models, specialized AI systems, data platforms, and industry processes to bridge the gap between technology deployment and business value creation.
AI 1000 follows a structured four-stage framework encompassing identification, capability development, deployment, and governance. The programme begins by assessing engineering talent through a proprietary AI Readiness Index designed to identify high-potential candidates. Selected participants then undergo targeted learning journeys focused on AI technologies, practical application development, and business-focused problem solving.
The curriculum includes hands-on learning through hackathons, real-world enterprise projects, and certification pathways. Successful participants are subsequently deployed into active AI programmes where they contribute directly to customer engagements and transformation initiatives.
A comprehensive governance model has been incorporated to track performance, capture best practices, and continuously refine learning pathways. This closed-loop framework ensures that lessons from deployments are integrated back into the programme, creating a sustainable ecosystem for capability development.
Venu Lambu, CEO and Managing Director of LTM, stated that the initiative reflects the evolving role of technology professionals in an AI-first business environment. He emphasized that the programme is designed not only to enhance technical proficiency but also to equip engineers with the skills required to drive measurable business outcomes and productivity improvements.
LTM enters this initiative with a strong foundation in AI learning and workforce development. The company has recorded more than 6.5 million learning hours, achieved nearly 84 percent learning penetration across its workforce, secured over 15,000 external AI certifications, and trained more than 24,000 associates in AI-related technologies.
LTM, with more than 87,000 employees across 40 countries, provides technology services spanning AI-driven business transformation, integrated operations, digital modernization, and enterprise technology solutions. The company focuses on combining domain expertise and intelligent systems to help organizations improve productivity, operational agility, and business performance through advanced technology platforms and automation.
