The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded significant contracts in India and overseas, reflecting the growing demand for advanced grid infrastructure to enhance power system reliability and performance. In India, L&T has received an order for the upgrade of power distribution systems in two urban areas.
The scope includes the deployment of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and integration of smart technologies. The project also involves the construction of distribution transformer stations and the replacement of overhead power lines with underground cabling, aimed at improving safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Internationally, L&T has secured key orders in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. In the UAE, the company will be responsible for the design, supply, and construction of two ±300 MVAr STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) units. These will be installed at existing 400 kV substations to provide real-time voltage regulation through dynamic reactive power support.
STATCOM systems play a critical role in improving power quality by automatically responding to voltage fluctuations and helping to maintain grid stability. In Oman, L&T will establish a 400/132 kV grid station, along with a corresponding segment of a 400 kV transmission line, contributing to the country’s ongoing efforts to expand and reinforce its transmission network.
These new contracts highlight L&T’s ongoing contribution to strengthening electrical infrastructure and align with the broader goals of energy transition and sustainability. The awarded projects are expected to enhance the operational reliability and long-term resilience of power networks in the respective regions.
