Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution division has been awarded several key contracts for grid infrastructure projects across the Middle East. The existing 400kV super grid interconnection, which links the power networks of GCC countries, has enhanced the efficient use of generation resources and strengthened grid stability.
Currently, Oman’s network connects to this system via a 220kV link through the UAE. Plans are underway to upgrade this to a direct 400kV connection, requiring the construction of a critical 400kV substation in the UAE.
L&T PT&D has secured the contract to design, supply, and build this 400kV substation. Additionally, the company has received orders to develop new 132kV substations in the region to meet rising electricity demands.
In Saudi Arabia, L&T has been tasked with the turnkey delivery of 380kV overhead transmission lines aimed at integrating renewable energy sources into the grid.
