L&T Bags Large Solar and Battery Storage Order

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced that its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has secured a domestic order to build a grid-connected 185MW solar power plant and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kajra, Bihar. The project is valued between Rs 1000 crore and Rs 2500 crore.

The solar plant and BESS will play a key role in Bihar’s renewable energy plans, helping to combat climate change and meet growing energy demand. The BESS, with a capacity of 254MWh, will store solar energy during low demand periods and release it during peak demand times. It will also help stabilize the grid by regulating frequency and voltage.

A. Ravindran, Sr. Vice President & Head of Renewable Strategic Business Group, PT&D, said, “This project adds to our renewable EPC portfolio of 18GW, which includes solar and wind projects. Our experience with over 1.5GWh of storage capacity makes us a preferred EPC partner globally.”

T. Madhava Das, Whole-time Director & Sr. Executive Vice President (Utilities) at L&T, highlighted the company’s expertise in renewable energy solutions across various technologies and regions, including India, the Middle East, and the Far East.

Amit Anwani, Research Analyst at Prabhudas Lilladher Pvt Ltd, noted that this order will bring L&T’s year-to-date order intake to between Rs 55 billion and Rs 125 billion.

L&T is a multinational company engaged in EPC projects, high-tech manufacturing, and services, operating in over 50 countries worldwide.
