LG Electronics, is set to enter the Indian automotive market. The company will offer advanced auto parts like cockpit electronics, connectivity solutions, and infotainment systems through partnerships with Hyundai, Kia, Renault, and Volkswagen.
LG has assembled a team of 2,500 engineers in Bengaluru to develop these products for global clients, said Valentin Janiaut, LG’s global head for this business. LG has also introduced EV charging solutions in Korea and the US and is considering a rollout in India, a company spokesperson said.
Janiaut mentioned that Hyundai and Kia might launch LG’s PlayWare entertainment platform for in-car infotainment systems in India by next year. The platform will include localized content such as news, music, movies, and parking solutions tailored for Indian buyers.
LG is exploring more collaborations in India beyond its existing partnerships with Hyundai, Kia, Renault, and Volkswagen. However, Janiaut noted that these products might not be available in every car model, especially in the entry-segment.
This move is part of LG’s plan to transform from a consumer electronics maker to a smart life solutions company by 2030. LG aims to increase profits and revenues, expecting nearly half of its global revenues from business-to-business products, up from the current 30%.
In India, LG is a market leader in home appliances like refrigerators and washing machines, and is also a leading brand in air-conditioners and televisions. The company has two manufacturing plants in the country.
LG has developed AlphaWare, a software-defined vehicle platform to provide home-like comfort and connectivity in cars. The AlphaWare core solutions include PlayWare, MetaWare, and VisionWare, designed specifically for consumers.
