LANXESS, the global specialty chemicals company, has inaugurated a new blending facility at its manufacturing complex in Jhagadia, Gujarat, marking a major expansion of its lubricant additives business in India. In the first phase, the plant will manufacture specialty lubricant additives for automotive and industrial applications.

The new facility has been established to serve both domestic and export markets, with a primary focus on India, the Middle East, and other strategic international regions. Built with emphasis on workplace safety, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible operations, the plant supports LANXESS’ long-term plans for sustainable industrial growth in India.

Dr Hubert Fink, Member of the Board of Management at LANXESS AG, said India continues to be one of the most promising growth markets globally, creating opportunities across multiple industries. He noted that LANXESS remains committed to increasing its presence in the country and aligning future investments with India’s industrial progress.

India is currently the world’s third-largest lubricants market, making it a priority geography for LANXESS’ additives business. The company stated that the new production unit will improve supply reliability, shorten response times, and strengthen technical collaboration with customers across sectors.

Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Global Head of the Business Unit Lubricant Additives at LANXESS, said the commissioning of the new plant represents another key milestone after the launch of the company’s Application Technology Center in India in 2025. He added that the project reflects the company’s support for the “Make in India” initiative and reinforces its commitment to customers across India and neighboring markets.

According to the company, the local manufacturing base will help deliver high-quality additive solutions faster while enhancing flexibility in meeting regional demand. The facility is expected to play an important role in supporting lubricant makers looking for advanced formulations that improve engine performance, fuel efficiency, and equipment life.

Alongside the inauguration, LANXESS also signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to introduce advanced technologies to the Indian market. In addition, the company has begun third-party manufacturing activities for its lubricant additives business in the country. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior company executives, industry representatives, business partners, and employees.

With the launch of the Jhagadia plant, LANXESS has further strengthened its manufacturing footprint in India and underlined the country’s importance in its global expansion plans. The company said it remains focused on delivering innovative chemical solutions that support mobility, industrial productivity, and sustainable development worldwide.
