KFin Technologies Limited (KFintech), a Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) for the National Pension System (NPS), has introduced technology support for the NPS Swasthya initiative, allowing subscribers to make instant payments for eligible medical expenses within the NPS framework. The solution has been developed in collaboration with Apollo 24/7 and is available as a payment option on the Apollo 24/7 app and website.
The initiative allows NPS subscribers to link their NPS Swasthya account with the Apollo 24/7 platform and pay for healthcare services quickly and securely, similar to a digital payment. While the medical expense is covered through the Swasthya contribution, the remaining retirement savings continue to stay invested, helping subscribers manage urgent healthcare needs without affecting their long-term financial plans.
As the CRA, KFintech manages account validation, transaction processing and settlement within the NPS system. When a subscriber makes an eligible payment through the partner network, the system verifies the request, redeems the required units according to NPS rules and settles the payment directly with the healthcare provider. The process is designed to be secure, transparent and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Subscribers can register for investments under the NPS Swasthya option through the Apollo 24/7 app as well as through the ICICI Prudential Pension Funds website.
Commenting on the development, Sreekanth Nadella, Managing Director and CEO, KFin Technologies Limited, said the NPS Swasthya proof of concept demonstrates how retirement solutions can be adapted to meet essential needs such as healthcare within a regulated structure. He added that such flexibility requires strong digital recordkeeping systems to ensure transparency, proper governance and rule-based processing. KFintech’s platform enables secure verification, compliant unit redemption and auditable transactions, providing a smooth experience while protecting retirement savings.
The NPS Swasthya initiative highlights how technology-driven recordkeeping can support innovation within the pension system. By combining secure digital infrastructure with regulated processes, the programme aims to improve accessibility for subscribers while maintaining the integrity of long-term retirement investments. KFintech said it will continue working with ecosystem partners to enhance digital capabilities and improve subscriber experience across NPS services.
