Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Tuesday his optimism about finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a “mega” steel plant in Keonjhar district during the upcoming ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha’ conclave scheduled for January 28-29 in Bhubaneswar.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed optimism on Tuesday about signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a “mega” steel plant in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district during the ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha’ conclave, scheduled in Bhubaneswar on January 28-29. Highlighting his commitment to the district’s overall development, Majhi emphasized his focus on improving road connectivity, drinking water supply, health, and education infrastructure. “Discussions are ongoing, and I am hopeful that I will succeed in securing the MoU,” the Chief Minister stated.

Majhi underscored Keonjhar’s abundant reserves of iron, manganese, chromite, and dolomite, stressing the importance of setting up industries in the region to unlock its potential. “I assure the people of Keonjhar that the steel plant will be established very soon,” he declared during his three-day visit to the district.

He also recalled his announcement in November last year that the JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO would collaborate on a greenfield steel facility in his home district. He acknowledged that a previous plan for a 12 MTPA steel plant by ArcelorMittal during the BJD government was shelved due to protests but remained committed to ensuring progress in the district’s industrial development.
