Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) announced plans to establish the world’s largest steel plant in Angul by 2030, as stated by Chairman Naveen Jindal on Tuesday. The company aims to expand its current steel-making capacity from 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 12 MTPA by next year as part of its ongoing Angul facility expansion.
Following a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Jindal expressed confidence in the project’s timeline. A delegation from the Indian Steel Association (ISA), led by JSP’s chairman, also met with the chief minister, highlighting Odisha’s pivotal role in India’s steel industry due to its abundant mineral resources and strategic location.
During discussions, emphasis was placed on integrating green energy and sustainable practices into the steel sector. The delegation underscored the potential for expanding the steel industry in Odisha, including the production of special grade and green steel, which is expected to boost the state’s economic growth.
Jindal reaffirmed JSP’s commitment to Odisha’s industrial and economic progress, pledging collaboration with the government to achieve mutual development goals. Additionally, during his visit to CV Raman Global University, Gram Tarang project of Centurion University, and the World Skill Centre, Jindal praised Odisha’s skill development initiatives, highlighting their potential to empower the state’s youth and serve as a model for the rest of India.
