Jindal Stainless Ltd has played a pivotal role in strengthening the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities by supplying 3 mm special alloy steel sheets for the Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system.
The sheets, developed by Jindal Stainless’ vertical, Jindal Defence and Aerospace, are engineered to withstand high pressure and temperature conditions during flight. These sheets were utilized in the next-generation missile-based lightweight torpedo delivery system, designed and flight-tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) off the coast of Odisha.
Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, expressed pride in the successful flight-testing of the Navy’s SMART system, considering it a significant milestone in India’s strategic defense capabilities. He emphasized Jindal Stainless’ role as a proud contributor to bolstering the Indian Navy through the provision of materials of the highest quality for optimal performance and reliability. Jindal Stainless’ special alloy steel sheets have undergone rigorous testing to meet and surpass the stringent requirements for such critical applications.
Despite this remarkable achievement, Jindal Stainless Ltd’s shares experienced a 2.89 percent decline, reaching ₹700.90 at 3:15 pm on the BSE. The successful collaboration between Jindal Stainless and DRDO underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities through indigenous manufacturing and technological innovation. With the SMART system, the Indian Navy is better equipped to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests and ensure security in the region.
As India continues to advance in defense technology, partnerships between industry leaders like Jindal Stainless and government research organizations like DRDO are poised to play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s defense infrastructure and fostering self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
