Jindal Stainless, in collaboration with AB Energia Solutions, has launched the largest captive solar energy plant in Odisha at its manufacturing site in Jajpur. With a total capacity of 30 MWp, the project features a unique blend of 7.324 MWp floating solar panels installed on a reservoir within the facility, alongside a 23.02 MWp rooftop system distributed across ten industrial units.
The solar power system is projected to produce around 44.3 million units of electricity each year—enough to power roughly 12,000 to 15,000 households. This move is expected to significantly reduce the plant’s dependency on traditional electricity sources and cut carbon emissions by over 32,000 metric tonnes annually.
Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, highlighted the project as a major milestone in the company’s path toward sustainability. “This installation is a crucial step in our mission to achieve net-zero emissions and reflects our ongoing investment in cleaner energy solutions,” he said.
The floating solar setup not only adds to energy generation but also minimizes water evaporation, utilizing existing resources efficiently. Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director of AB Energia Solutions, emphasized the broader impact, saying such innovations help Indian manufacturing remain competitive as global markets shift toward greener products.
This solar initiative is part of a broader ₹700 crore investment by Jindal Stainless in carbon reduction efforts over the next five years, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. The company, a major player in the stainless steel sector, posted a revenue of ₹38,562 crore in FY24 and is expanding operations to achieve 4.2 million tonnes in annual melt capacity by FY27.
With manufacturing hubs in India and abroad, including Spain and Indonesia, Jindal Stainless uses electric arc furnaces in its production process—an environmentally friendlier method that allows for significant recycling and reduced greenhouse gas output. The project also aligns with India’s ambitious renewable energy roadmap, which targets 500 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030.
Jindal Stainless is known for its emphasis on sustainability, focusing on recycling, energy efficiency, and eco-friendly processes to reduce its environmental footprint. Its extensive product portfolio, which includes flat and long stainless steel products, reflects the company’s commitment to quality and technological advancement. With a strong presence in both domestic and international markets, Jindal Stainless continues to drive progress and innovation in stainless steel applications while contributing to India’s industrial growth.
