Infineon Technologies AG has launched its latest innovation, the XENSIV™ TLI5590-A6W magnetic position sensor, seamlessly blending magnetic position sensor expertise with linearized tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) technology. This wafer-level packaged sensor is designed for both linear and angular incremental position detection, finding applications in industrial and consumer scenarios while adhering to the JEDEC standard JESD47K.
Infineon Technologies AG is one of the global leaders in semiconductor technology, specializing in power systems and IoT. with the mission of driving decarbonization and digitalization, Infineon incorporates a workforce of approximately 58,600 employees worldwide. In the fiscal year ending on September 30, 2023, the company achieved a revenue of about €16.3 billion. Infineon is publicly listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol IFX and on the OTCQX International over-the-counter market in the USA with the ticker symbol IFNNY.
The TLI5590 magnetic position sensor is set to be a game-changer as it offers a low field sensor with Infineon TMR technology, specifically developed for high-volume sensor systems. Its standout features include ultra-high sensitivity, low jitter, and low power consumption. This sensor can serve as an efficient alternative to optical encoders and resolvers, especially in tasks such as positioning lenses for zoom and focus adjustment in cameras.
What sets the TLI5590 apart is its utilization of two TMR Wheatstone bridges, where the TMR resistance is contingent on the external magnetic field’s direction and strength. Paired with a multipole magnet, each bridge produces a differential output signal—sine and cosine signals—which can be further processed for relative position measurement.
Gathered in an extreme small 6-ball wafer-level package (SG-WFWLB-6-3), the TLI5590 combines higher integration density with reduced sensor size, facilitating miniaturization and position detection in microsystems. Offering accuracy of better than 10 µm, achievable through a suitable linear or rotary magnetic encoder, the TLI5590 ensures precise detection, even in environments with rapidly changing directions.
The sensor’s extended operating temperature range of up to +125°C enhances its flexibility for use in various industrial and consumer applications. Its high-temperature stability makes it an ideal choice for deployment in harsh environments where consistency and reliability are crucial. Infineon’s TLI5590-A6W is available for ordering.
