Infineon Technologies AG, a leading semiconductor company, has recently unveiled an expansion to its MOTIX™ family, introducing four new 2-channel gate driver ICs—2ED2742S01G, 2ED2732S01G, 2ED2748S01G, and 2ED2738S01G. This expansion enhances the product family’s offerings for automotive and industrial motor control applications. The latest gate drivers operate at 160 V and are based on Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology, catering to the growing demand for efficient gate drive solutions in battery-powered applications.

Designed with a focus on versatility, the 2-channel MOTIX gate driver ICs are compact, robust, and cost-effective. They exhibit remarkable latch-up immunity, making them ideal for deployment in battery-powered devices such as cordless power tools, multicopters, drones, and light electric vehicles equipped with batteries up to 120 V.

The integration of Infineon’s advanced SOI technology sets these gate drivers apart, eliminating the parasitic thyristor structure. This not only enhances robustness but also ensures immunity to negative transient voltages at the VS pin. The gate drivers feature a monolithic bootstrap diode that supplies the high-side bootstrap capacitor externally, contributing to reduced Bill of Materials (BOM) costs at the system level. Housed in a compact 3 x 3 mm² VSON10 package, the devices are available in both half-bridge (HB) and high-side + low-side (HS + LS) configurations, accommodating different source/sink currents to drive n-channel MOSFETs in diverse applications.

Infineon Expands the MOTIX™ Range of Products with 160 V 2-Channel Gate Driver ICs for Battery-Powered Applications

Specifically, the 2ED2732S01G and 2ED2742S01G deliver a source current of 1 A and a sink current of 2 A, catering to applications with varying power requirements. On the other hand, the 2ED2738S01G and 2ED2748S01G are designed for more demanding scenarios, providing a source current of 4 A and a sink current of 8 A. This flexibility in source/sink currents enables these gate drivers to meet the diverse needs of different systems. All products in the MOTIX 160 V series boast independent undervoltage lockout (UVLO) on both V CC and V B pins. The HB products go a step further by integrating shoot-through protection (STP), enhancing reliability and safety in operation. Additionally, these gate drivers have successfully undergone full qualification for industrial applications, complying with the relevant JEDEC78/20/22 tests.

Infineon’s expansion of the MOTIX family refers to the company’s mission for advancing semiconductor solutions for automotive and industrial applications. With a focus on efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, the 2-channel MOTIX gate driver ICs are poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly evolving landscape of battery-powered devices and motor control systems. As the demand for battery-powered applications continues to grow, Infineon’s innovative gate drivers provide a valuable solution, contributing to the development of more energy-efficient and reliable systems. The integration of SOI technology not only addresses current market needs but also positions these gate drivers as a future-ready choice for emerging technologies and applications.
