igus introduces the draw e-chain for cable guidance in drawers and pull-outs, offering a minimalist design that reduces costs by 30 percent compared to standard e-chains. This innovation prevents expensive oversizing, particularly beneficial for applications with minimal movement. From camper van drawers to server rack pull-outs, industrial energy chains are often oversized for occasional movement, leading to unnecessary expenses.

Jörg Ottersbach, Head of the e-chain Business Unit at igus, explains the motivation behind the draw e-chain’s development, “We have created a compact, cost-effective energy chain specifically for guiding cables in drawers and pull-outs.” With a bend radius of 45mm, external width of 45mm, and external height of just 22mm, the draw e-chain is 13 percent flatter than igus’s previous flattest standard e-chain, the B17.1.048.0.

The draw-e-chain stands out for its compactness compared to conventional models, offering cost savings as well. This is achieved by eliminating mechanically complex components. Unlike traditional chains that require links to fold, the injection-molded draw-e-chain features flexible segments that can bend as needed. With just six segments per meter, the draw-e-chain utilizes a straightforward connector system for assembly, reducing both labor and expenses.

According to Ottersbach, this minimalist design translates to a 30% cost reduction compared to their most economical standard e-chain. The design of the draw e-chain enables users to easily assemble it by hand within a short time frame. This cost-effective energy chain is specifically crafted for a 90-degree rotation during installation, making it suitable for use on the inner side of a drawer, eliminating the need for connection elements. The cable guidance segments feature screw holes for easy installation.

According to Ottersbach, the process of inserting cables is also swift. Unlike traditional e-chains, this design does not require users to open any crossbars. Instead, cables can be effortlessly pushed through the flexible tabs of the energy chain from above, taking only a few seconds to complete.
