Integral Coach Factory (ICF), in collaboration with BEML Ltd, has commenced the development of the first prototype for these advanced high-speed trains and trainsets. U Subba Rao, the General Manager of ICF, has revealed that recent tenders were issued for the design and development of these high-speed trainsets.

BEML has been chosen as the partner and consultant for this pioneering project. According to Rao, “ICF, in partnership with BEML, will be deeply involved in the design and development of these high-speed trainsets. These trains are expected to reach speeds of at least 250 kilometers per hour and potentially exceed this benchmark.”

Rao added, “All aspects of design, construction, and operationalization will be entirely indigenous, showcasing our capability to produce world-class technology locally.” The new high-speed trains will operate on standard gauge tracks, marking a significant advancement in India’s rail transport system. This initiative aligns with the BJP’s 2024 Lok Sabha manifesto, which highlighted the necessity for India to develop its own rolling stock and manufacturing capabilities as new high-speed rail corridors come into service.

Railway officials emphasize the importance of this project, stating, “As India progresses towards implementing high-speed rail corridors, there is a pressing need for domestically produced rolling stock and manufacturing capabilities. By engaging ICF and BEML in creating functional prototypes, we are taking a crucial step forward in meeting this requirement.”

The focus on indigenous development reflects India’s commitment to enhancing its rail infrastructure through self-reliance and technological innovation. This move not only aims to boost the speed and efficiency of rail travel but also to foster local expertise and production capabilities in the high-speed rail sector.

The collaboration between ICF and BEML represents a significant leap toward realizing a vision of a modern, high-speed rail network in India, capable of competing with international standards and meeting the growing demands of domestic transportation. The development of these high-speed trainsets marks a pivotal moment in India’s rail history, setting the stage for a new era of rapid transit that promises to transform the landscape of travel and connectivity across the country.
