Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has further strengthened its localisation efforts, achieving 82% local sourcing for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in FY25, compared with 78% in FY24. Since 2019, the automaker has localised more than 1,200 components in partnership with nearly 200 suppliers.

In the electric vehicle (EV) segment, the company has enhanced supply chain resilience and reduced costs through a dedicated battery assembly line operated by Mobis India, according to Gopalakrishnan CS, Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, in HMIL’s 2024–25 annual report. Mr Gopalakrishnan noted that the ‘Make in India’ initiative has spurred investment and reduced import dependence, while the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission has advanced localisation of key components such as EV batteries, engines, and transmissions. This push has also integrated start-ups and small and medium enterprises into global value chains.

To align with India’s carbon neutrality targets, HMIL is developing a comprehensive EV ecosystem—from manufacturing and battery pack assembly in Chennai to cell localisation through strategic partnerships. The company plans for many future EVs to feature locally produced cells to improve cost competitiveness.

Hyundai has already installed close to 80 fast chargers and aims to expand to over 600 in the next six to seven years. The company is also rolling out Smart Home Charging solutions (up to 11 kW) and its myHyundai Charging Management System (CMS) to enable smooth charging, payments, and after-sales services.
