Hyundai Motor Group has announced plans to invest USD 15.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2032, targeting manufacturing expansion, research and development, local supply-chain development and future mobility technologies. The seven-year investment programme is intended to strengthen India’s role in the Group’s global operations and support the development of a wider automotive ecosystem.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi on October 13, 2026. As part of the plan, the Group will establish a dedicated investment entity in India to coordinate investments across research and development infrastructure, emerging technologies and the wider automotive industry. The entity will also identify potential local partners and support strategic collaborations with Indian suppliers.

“India remains one of Hyundai Motor Group’s most important and strategic markets globally. The past 30 years have been defined by our commitment to India. This investment reaffirms our commitment to India for the next 30 years and beyond. Through this investment, we will create more employment opportunities and work together with our partners and stakeholders to support India’s continued industrial development,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group.

The investment programme will support capacity expansion at Hyundai Motor India Limited and Kia India Private Limited. The Group aims to increase production in line with market demand, improve localisation and strengthen India’s position as a global vehicle export base.

Research and development will be another focus. Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest approximately USD 700 million in its Indian R&D centre, including a vehicle testing track. The investment is intended to strengthen local engineering capabilities, develop talent and accelerate work on next-generation automotive technologies.

The Group also plans to deepen its relationships with Indian suppliers to improve parts localisation and build a more resilient supply chain. Investments in emerging mobility businesses will include support for high-potential startups and exploration of opportunities in automotive financing, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and end-of-life vehicle recycling.

Hyundai Motor Group employs more than 24,000 people in India. Its existing manufacturing network has a combined annual capacity of more than 1.4 million vehicles, comprising Hyundai Motor India’s Chennai facility with capacity of 824,000 units, its Pune facility with capacity of 170,000 units, and Kia India’s Anantapur plant with capacity of 431,000 units. The Pune facility’s capacity is scheduled to increase in phases. The Group’s Indian operations also include component, service, logistics and financial businesses through affiliates such as Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Transys, Hyundai Capital, Hyundai Wia and Hyundai Glovis.

The proposed investment is expected to create employment across manufacturing, engineering, research and development, and supplier networks. It builds on the Group’s existing social initiatives in India, including disability inclusion, vocational training, education and skills development. Since 2016, its major affiliates have contributed approximately USD 110 million to social welfare and community programmes in the country.

Hyundai Motor Group operates globally across mobility and related sectors, with Hyundai, Kia and Genesis among its automotive brands. The new investment programme is intended to expand its manufacturing and technology base in India while supporting the country’s automotive industry and future mobility development.
