Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have formalized a strategic collaboration through a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to accelerate the development and commercialization of electric three-wheeler (E3W) solutions tailored for India’s last-mile mobility needs.

The partnership builds on the unveiling of an E3W concept at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and marks a transition from concept exploration to product development and large-scale deployment. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to delivering sustainable, efficient, and accessible transportation solutions in one of the world’s largest three-wheeler markets.

Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor will lead design and co-development efforts, leveraging its global research and development capabilities, advanced mobility technologies, and human-centric design expertise. TVS Motor will contribute its electric vehicle platform, engineering capabilities, and deep understanding of local market requirements. The company will also oversee manufacturing, sales, and distribution, with production based in India for both domestic use and future export opportunities.

The planned E3W solution is being engineered to address India’s unique operating conditions, including diverse road environments and high-demand urban usage. Key features are expected to include adaptive ground clearance for challenging road conditions, enhanced safety systems, optimized thermal management for tropical climates, and flexible configurations suited for passenger and cargo applications.

Joongsun Ko, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Planning at Hyundai Motor Company, stated that India remains a key market for the company’s long-term mobility vision. He noted that the collaboration is aimed at improving accessibility to safe and sustainable transportation across the country.

Sharad Mishra, President – Group Strategy at TVS Motor Company, highlighted that the agreement represents an important milestone in advancing electric mobility solutions. He emphasized that the partnership combines complementary strengths to deliver purpose-built products that align with evolving customer needs and sustainability goals.

A central element of the collaboration is the focus on localization. Major components for the E3W will be sourced and manufactured within India, supporting the domestic supply chain, generating employment, and ensuring cost efficiency along with reliable after-sales service.

Dedicated teams from both organizations have been established to drive development, testing, and regulatory approvals. The first vehicle under this partnership is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable last-mile mobility in India, combining technology, affordability, and performance.
