HORKOS CORP and Spanish metal additive manufacturing technology developer Meltio have launched the NX70 DUO version AM, a hybrid machine that combines metal 3D printing and precision cutting in a single manufacturing system. The machine is based on HORKOS’s NX70 1510B machining centre and uses Meltio’s wire laser metal deposition technology.
The twin-head, non-bed machine allows manufacturers to switch between metal deposition and machining operations within the same machine setup. This can reduce the need to transfer components between separate systems and improve flexibility when producing or repairing complex metal parts.
The NX70 DUO version AM has already been sold to a major industrial customer with international operations, indicating demand for integrated additive and subtractive manufacturing systems. Meltio’s technology uses metal welding wire as feedstock and laser energy to deposit material at specific locations. It can be used for manufacturing complex components, repairing damaged parts, remanufacturing and prototyping. The combined process is particularly useful for components such as closed impellers, where conventional machining can be difficult because of restricted tool access.
Kunihiro Ikeda, Director of the R&D Division at HORKOS CORP said the machine combines Meltio’s wire-based directed energy deposition technology with HORKOS’s precision engineering and water-soluble iMQL® system. He said the design addresses manufacturing challenges such as labour shortages, limited factory space and environmental concerns through automation and process integration.
Adam Hourigan, APAC Sales Manager at Meltio, said the collaboration would help Japanese industrial customers incorporate metal additive manufacturing into hybrid systems for producing and repairing components made from different materials. The machine uses HORKOS’s Non Bed Structure to maintain a compact footprint. Its water-soluble iMQL® technology is designed to support a cleaner machining environment.
MadeHere, Meltio’s official master distributor in Japan, supports the integration. Alexander De Vore, CEO of MadeHere, said the company would assist Japanese customers with system integration and operation, working with HORKOS and CNC Meltio partner Techtrage Co., Ltd.
The technology will be demonstrated at JIMTOF 2026, the 33rd Japan International Machine Tool Fair, at Tokyo Big Sight from October 26 to 31. The machine will be displayed at Booth E2001, where visitors can see a dry-run operation and video demonstrations of actual printing.
Meltio technology is also being used in CNC-based training systems in the United States. Phillips Federal has sold 12 systems combining Haas TM-1P CNC platforms with Meltio metal deposition technology to the US Navy’s Schoolhouse in Danville, Virginia. The systems support training in hybrid manufacturing for fleet maintenance, repairs and production at the point of need.HORKOS manufactures high-rigidity machining centres and automated manufacturing systems, including hybrid machines that combine metal 3D printing with precision cutting. Meltio develops metal 3D printing systems based on wire laser metal deposition technology. MadeHere KK supplies metal and resin 3D printing systems and supports their integration in Japan as Meltio’s official master distributor.
