Hitachi Vantara, the data storage, infrastructure and hybrid cloud management arm of Hitachi Ltd, has announced the release of its FY2025 Sustainability Report, outlining measurable progress across environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities. The report underscores advancements in energy-efficient infrastructure, lifecycle-focused design, and governance frameworks aimed at supporting enterprises managing growing AI-driven and data-intensive workloads.
As organizations accelerate digital transformation initiatives and integrate artificial intelligence into operations, demand for high-performance data infrastructure continues to rise. According to the International Energy Agency, global data center electricity consumption could exceed 1,000 terawatt-hours by 2026. This surge is placing pressure on enterprises to balance performance, operational costs, and environmental responsibility. Increasing power and cooling requirements further highlight the importance of efficiency in modern data environments.
Addressing these challenges, Hitachi Vantara is embedding sustainability into its infrastructure portfolio, enabling customers to reduce energy consumption, optimize operations, and improve return on investment. Akinobu Shimada, CEO of Hitachi Vantara, stated, “Sustainability is closely linked to business performance. Our focus has been on helping customers manage rapid data growth while improving efficiency and minimizing environmental impact through continuous innovation and governance enhancements.”
Key highlights from the FY2025 report include advancements in infrastructure efficiency through the introduction of VSP One Block High End, designed to deliver scalable performance with reduced power and cooling demands. The company has also expanded lifecycle assessment initiatives across its storage portfolios, improving visibility into environmental impact and Scope 3 emissions. Tools such as the Clear Sight dashboard provide actionable insights into energy consumption and carbon usage.
In terms of materials and circularity, the company increased the use of post-consumer recycled plastics, reaching up to 50% in select components. Less than 0.3% of materials were sent to landfill, with the majority reused or recycled through optimized recovery programs. Governance improvements have strengthened emissions tracking and data accuracy across Scope 1, Scope 2, and key Scope 3 categories, aligning with evolving ESG standards.
Customer implementations further demonstrate these outcomes. Organizations across sectors—including water management, banking, and media—have reported gains in efficiency, reduced energy usage, and improved operational performance after deploying Hitachi Vantara solutions.
The FY2025 report reflects a broader strategic shift toward integrating sustainability into core infrastructure design and operations. This approach enables enterprises to scale responsibly while meeting the increasing demands of AI and data-driven environments. Hitachi Vantara is redefining how organizations harness data to drive progress and innovation.
