Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a Vedanta Group company and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, successfully organized the Intra Zonal Mine Rescue Competition (IZMRC) 2025 at its Rampura Agucha Mine, the world’s largest underground zinc mining operation, from October 11–13, 2025. The event was conducted under the guidance of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Northwestern Zone, and brought together India’s leading mine rescue teams to demonstrate their expertise, coordination, and emergency response capabilities.

The three-day event witnessed participation from ten teams, including two all-women rescue teams from HZL’s Rampura Agucha and Zawar Group of Mines. Other participating teams represented Kayad Mine, Hindustan Copper Mines, Rajpura Dariba Mine, Sindesar Khurd Mine, Rampura Agucha, and Zawar Group of Mines, with both Zawar Group and Hindustan Copper Mines fielding two teams each. The competition highlighted the critical importance of technical skill, physical endurance, and teamwork — hallmarks of HZL’s strong and evolving safety culture.

The opening ceremony, held on October 12 at the Rampura Agucha Rescue Room Training (RRRT) Centre, was inaugurated by Vinod Rajak, Director of Mines Safety, Northwestern Zone, DGMS Udaipur, as Chief Guest. The ceremony was also attended by senior DGMS officials including K Ravinder, Dr I Satyanarayan, and Tom Mathews as Guests of Honour, along with HZL leadership and representatives from the mining community.

Addressing the gathering, Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-time Director, Hindustan Zinc, said, “At Hindustan Zinc, safety is at the heart of every operation. The Intra Zonal Mine Rescue Competition reflects our commitment to preparedness, teamwork, and operational excellence. It is inspiring to witness the skill, courage, and professionalism shown by all participants — particularly our all-women rescue teams who are setting new benchmarks in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated. Such initiatives strengthen our safety systems and instill a deep sense of pride and purpose across our organization. We will continue to advance the highest standards of safety, inclusion, and innovation across all our sites.”

Throughout the competition, teams took part in live rescue relays, statutory tests, and emergency simulations, evaluating their technical expertise, decision-making, and readiness under pressure. The closing ceremony, held on October 13 at the Executive Club, Zinc Colony, Rampura Agucha, was graced by RT Mandekar, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, Northwestern Zone, DGMS Udaipur, as Chief Guest. The event was attended by Kishore Kumar S, Chief Operating Officer, Hindustan Zinc, Ram Murari, IBU CEO, Rampura Agucha Mine, senior DGMS officials, and other dignitaries from the mining sector.

Awards were presented across eight categories, with the Rampura Agucha men’s team emerging as overall winners, followed by Rajpura Dariba Mine as the first runner-up. The second runner-up position was shared between Hindustan Copper Limited and the all-women team from Rampura Agucha Mine, marking a historic achievement in gender inclusion and safety excellence. The successful completion of IZMRC 2025 reinforces Hindustan Zinc’s unwavering focus on safety leadership, skill enhancement, and gender diversity in mining operations.
