Hindustan Copper and EIL Partner on Critical Minerals

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) and Engineers India Limited (EIL) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to strengthen collaboration across mining, mineral processing, engineering, project management, sustainability, and advanced technical services. The agreement marks a significant step toward supporting India’s growing focus on critical minerals, rare earth elements, and domestic resource development.

The MoA was formalized at Engineers India Limited’s corporate headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Copper Limited, senior management from EIL, and officials representing both organisations. Under the agreement, Engineers India Limited will provide a comprehensive range of consultancy and engineering services to Hindustan Copper Limited across its integrated business operations.

The partnership will support projects covering mineral exploration, mine development, ore beneficiation, smelting, refining, downstream metal extraction, and the development of emerging technologies related to copper and critical mineral processing. The collaboration will also extend to project management consultancy, process engineering, safety and integrity assessments, environmental sustainability initiatives, and advanced technical solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency across HCL’s value chain.

India’s increasing emphasis on securing critical mineral resources for clean energy technologies, electric mobility, electronics, defence manufacturing, and renewable energy has elevated the strategic importance of domestic mining and mineral processing capabilities. The partnership between HCL and EIL is expected to contribute to this national objective by combining HCL’s expertise in mining and copper production with EIL’s engineering, project execution, and technology capabilities.

The agreement is designed to facilitate faster implementation of expansion projects, strengthen technological capabilities, and support modernization across HCL’s operations. It will also help identify opportunities for deploying advanced engineering solutions that improve productivity, sustainability, and long-term operational performance.

By working together on future projects, the two public sector enterprises aim to accelerate the development of infrastructure required for copper production and the processing of critical minerals that are increasingly essential for India’s industrial growth and energy transition.

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) is a prominent public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, and is the nation’s only vertically integrated copper producer. Established in 1967, HCL manages activities across the copper value chain, including mining, beneficiation, smelting, refining, and the production of various copper products.

The company operates mines and plants in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. HCL plays a significant role in meeting India’s growing demand for copper, an essential metal for industries like electrical, construction, and transportation. With a strong emphasis on sustainable mining practices, resource efficiency, and exploration to expand reserves, HCL is a key player in India’s effort to achieve self-reliance in copper production and support the country’s infrastructure and industrial growth.
