As India’s electric vehicle (EV) market continues to grow at a record pace, the Tooling division of Godrej Enterprises Group is stepping up to meet the industry’s evolving needs. Leveraging its engineering expertise, the company is strengthening the EV manufacturing supply chain through domestically developed, high-precision tooling systems.
With the automotive sector increasingly focused on electrification, the demand for advanced components such as new engine platforms, battery enclosures, and precision-formed sheet metal parts is rising sharply. In response, the Tooling business has expanded its capabilities to develop high-precision dies and tools customized for the unique demands of EV production.
Proactively anticipating this shift, Godrej Enterprises has consistently reinvested 2–3% of its annual revenue in research and development and state-of-the-art equipment. This forward-looking approach supports innovation, improves production efficiency, and enables the company to keep pace with changing industry requirements.
May 2025 marked a 28% increase in EV sales compared to the previous year, with total sales reaching 1.96 million units in FY2025. This rapid growth has intensified the need for high-precision, domestically manufactured EV components.
In response, Godrej’s Tooling business has sharpened its focus on producing advanced dies and tooling solutions tailored specifically for the EV industry. These tools are helping Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers transition to EV-specific production lines, in alignment with national initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and efforts to reduce import dependency. Over the past three years, EV-related tooling has accounted for 10–15% of the division’s total revenues—a clear indicator of how critical precision engineering and local manufacturing have become to India’s evolving EV landscape.
Pankaj Abhyankar, Business Head of the Tooling division at Godrej Enterprises Group, emphasized the importance of having capable domestic partners during this pivotal industry transformation. “As EV manufacturers expand their operations, they need tooling suppliers who not only understand the technical challenges but also the commercial urgency of the sector,” he said.
“The shift to electric mobility is about creating a resilient, self-sustaining, and competitive ecosystem. We are proud to contribute to this vision through our cutting-edge tooling capabilities.” He added that Godrej’s localized tooling systems are not only improving turnaround times and reducing costs but also enhancing the overall reliability of EV components—key for both domestic production and export potential.
The company is also actively working to localize tools that are currently imported, with plans to manufacture them at its Indian facilities. This strategy not only reduces reliance on international suppliers but also opens up new export opportunities for India-made tooling solutions. By combining global service capabilities with local manufacturing strength, Godrej Enterprises is positioning itself as a leader in world-class tooling exports while supporting the domestic EV ecosystem.
