GAIL (India) Limited and Khanij Bidesh India Limited (KABIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of critical and strategic minerals, marking an important step towards supporting India’s long-term resource security and clean energy ambitions.

The agreement was signed by Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Director (R&D and Exploration & Production), GAIL, and Sunil Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer, KABIL, in the presence of RK Singhal, Director (Business Development), GAIL, along with senior officials from both organisations. The partnership establishes a framework for identifying and evaluating opportunities related to critical and strategic minerals, which are increasingly important for advanced manufacturing, renewable energy technologies, electric mobility and other strategic sectors. The collaboration will facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise, promote capacity building, and explore joint initiatives across different segments of the mining value chain.

Through the MoU, GAIL and KABIL will work together to assess opportunities for securing access to critical mineral resources, both in India and overseas, while supporting the country’s efforts to build resilient supply chains for minerals that are essential for future technologies and industrial development. The collaboration is expected to contribute to India’s energy transition by supporting the availability of key raw materials required for clean energy systems, battery technologies and emerging industries. It also aligns with the Government of India’s broader strategy to strengthen resource security and reduce dependence on external supply disruptions in strategically important minerals.

GAIL, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has a diversified presence across the natural gas value chain. Its operations include natural gas transmission and marketing, LNG sourcing and regasification, LPG transmission, petrochemicals, city gas distribution, renewable energy and upstream exploration and production. The company continues to expand its portfolio in support of the country’s evolving energy requirements.

Khanij Bidesh India Limited (KABIL) is a joint venture of three Central Public Sector Enterprises—National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) and Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited (MECL). Established to identify, acquire and develop overseas critical and strategic mineral assets, KABIL plays a key role in securing mineral resources required for India’s economic growth, industrial development and clean energy transition.
