GAIL (India) Limited and AM Green BV (AMG) entered into an MoU on Friday, aimed at fostering projects that promote sustainable energy solutions in India. According to a regulatory filing, this collaboration will concentrate on the long-term provision of carbon dioxide (CO2) for the production of eMethanol, as well as the exploration of hybrid renewable energy initiatives throughout the country.
The MoU was formalized in the presence of Rajeev Singhal, Director of Business Development at GAIL, with Sumit Kishore, Executive Director of Business Development and Exploration & Production at GAIL, and Mahesh Kolli, Group President of AM Green, signing the agreement.
As part of the agreement, both companies plan to conduct studies regarding the long-term supply of approximately 350 kilotons per annum (KTA) of CO2 produced by GAIL in its gas processing facilities for eMethanol generation. This initiative aims to lower carbon emissions and foster a circular economy. Additionally, the terms of the MoU provide GAIL with an equity option to invest in the upcoming eMethanol project.
Moreover, both parties aspire to collaboratively investigate the establishment of hybrid renewable energy projects utilizing solar and wind sources, with a capacity of up to 2.5 gigawatts (GW) across India. These hybrid projects, combined with Greenko’s forthcoming Pump Storage Projects, are expected to deliver Round-The-Clock power to end users, including the planned eMethanol project.
Rajeev Singhal, Director of Business Development at GAIL, emphasized the significance of the MoU with AM Green, stating that it reflects GAIL’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. He remarked, “By enabling the supply of CO2 for eMethanol production, we are taking proactive measures to reduce carbon emissions and encourage the development of alternative fuels.”
He added, “Our renewable energy projects are vital for diminishing the country’s carbon footprint and facilitating India’s transition to a greener energy framework. This collaboration between GAIL and AMG is set to enhance technological innovation within India, while simultaneously promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability.”
Mahesh Kolli, Group President of AM Green, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with GAIL, highlighting it as one of the world’s largest contracts for a carbon-free, renewable energy supply. He stated, “This alliance reinforces AM Green’s emerging leadership role as a global platform for clean energy transition solutions.”
Kolli added, “It contributes to India’s goal of becoming an exporter of reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective green molecules and their derivatives, thereby accelerating the global industrial decarbonization process. The production of green methanol will also play a crucial role in the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors, including shipping, steel, and cement.”
GAIL (India) Limited is a leading natural gas processing and distribution company in India, focusing on sustainable energy solutions. AM Green BV (AMG) is a global leader in clean energy transition solutions, specializing in renewable energy projects. Together, they aim to reduce carbon emissions and advance sustainable energy through innovative projects, including eMethanol production and hybrid renewable energy initiatives.
