FWDA Unveils FWD Supreme Lite Flight Demonstrator, Targets First Flight in Q3 2026

Flying Wedge Defence & Aerospace (FWDA) has unveiled the first video preview of FWD Supreme Lite, its approximately 250-kg-class flight technology demonstrator developed as part of the company’s AI-piloted fighter aircraft programme. The development marks a transition from digital engineering and concept development to physical aircraft development, with the demonstrator now progressing through airframe development, system integration and ground testing.

FWD Supreme Lite is being positioned as the first flying testbed for the wider FWD Supreme aircraft family. The demonstrator is intended to help validate the programme’s aerodynamic configuration, flight architecture and key technologies before their potential integration into larger variants. FWDA is targeting the aircraft’s first flight in the third quarter of 2026.

The programme follows FWDA’s recently announced Mobbing Doctrine, a proposed approach to the future economics and operational structure of air combat. The concept focuses on deploying larger numbers of AI-piloted fighter-class aircraft rather than relying solely on smaller fleets of increasingly expensive conventional combat aircraft.

According to FWDA, the approach seeks to combine fighter-like performance, AI-enabled autonomy and combat mass to create numerical and tactical advantages while potentially changing the economics of generating air power. The Supreme family is being developed as the platform through which the company intends to explore and demonstrate this concept.

Suhas Tejaskanda, Founder and CEO, FWDA, said: “The battlefield is moving towards greater autonomy, distributed operations and combat mass; the future will be defined by who will own the algorithms. The Mobbing Doctrine is built around the idea that AI can change that equation by enabling a larger number of capable fighter-class aircraft to operate as a coordinated force. Supreme Lite is our first opportunity to take that thinking out of the digital environment and begin validating it through a real flying aircraft.” He added that India should play an active role in developing next-generation autonomous combat aviation technologies rather than simply observing developments taking place elsewhere.

Designed and manufactured in India, the FWD Supreme family is intended to provide an indigenous approach to AI-piloted fighter development. FWDA is also exploring Rocket Assisted Take-Off (RATO) capability for the platform, which could support operations from shorter or austere launch locations.

As global efforts to develop autonomous combat aircraft accelerate, FWDA aims to establish Supreme as an Indian contribution to this emerging technology segment. With Supreme Lite now entering ground testing, the programme’s next major milestone is its planned first flight in Q3 2026.

Flying Wedge Defence & Aerospace is an Indian defence technology company focused on AI-enabled warfare systems and next-generation combat aviation technologies. Headquartered in Bengaluru and founded in 2022 by Suhas Tejaskanda, the company develops autonomous aircraft and AI-driven defence platforms with an emphasis on indigenous technology and reduced dependence on foreign systems.
