Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, a global leader in high-performance filtration solutions, has announced a significant expansion of its portfolio to support the growing needs of cleanroom environments and the rapidly advancing lithium battery manufacturing sector. The company has introduced a new generation of Fan Filter Units (FFUs), enhanced Bag-In/Bag-Out (BIBO) systems equipped with integrated blowers, and specialised filters designed to withstand NMP exposure in Lithium-Ion Battery (LiB) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) production facilities.
The newly launched FFU range is engineered for industries that require precise and contamination-free airflow, including semiconductor fabrication, pharmaceutical cleanrooms and advanced battery production lines. These units offer highly controlled laminar airflow with HEPA and ULPA efficiency levels that align with demanding ISO 14644-1 classifications. The design focuses on energy optimisation through EC motors that help reduce operational consumption, while maintaining uniform airflow and low noise and vibration levels essential for sensitive processes. The new FFUs also incorporate intelligent monitoring and control features that allow users to track filter condition and pressure levels to ensure uninterrupted system performance.
In addition, Freudenberg has introduced upgraded BIBO systems built for environments handling toxic or hazardous emissions. These systems allow operators to change filters safely without exposure to contaminated air streams. The design incorporates stainless-steel modular housings, gas-tight sealing, and pressure-tested construction paired with an integrated EC blower that maintains stable airflow throughout filter replacement cycles. The units are compatible with a wide spectrum of filtration media, including HEPA and ULPA filters, activated carbon solutions and specialty chemical filters, making them suitable for a broad range of demanding containment applications.
Understanding the unique challenges of battery manufacturing, the company has also developed new filtration media specifically resistant to N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP), a solvent commonly used in LiB and LFP electrode production. These filters are built to retain mechanical strength, particle capture efficiency and airflow stability even in humid conditions and high-solvent environments. Their application extends across dry rooms, electrode-coating lines, solvent recovery systems and air purification units, helping manufacturers maintain process reliability and consistent product quality.
Freudenberg stated that the introduction of these new technologies reflects the company’s commitment to supporting industries that are driving the global shift toward cleaner energy and precision manufacturing. The company noted that its expanded FFU and BIBO offerings are designed to meet the stringent performance, safety and sustainability requirements of advanced manufacturing ecosystems, including semiconductor facilities and next-generation battery gigafactories.
Freudenberg has maintained a presence in India for more than 90 years and operates 15 production sites across multiple sectors, employing around 3,000 people at 50 locations nationwide. Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, a part of the broader Freudenberg Group, continues to serve as a trusted partner for air and liquid filtration needs across automotive, industrial, pharmaceutical, electronics and energy-related applications.
