Festo has expanded the capabilities of its VTUX Valve Terminal platform with a new set of features designed to improve machine efficiency, connectivity, and system flexibility. The latest upgrades introduce enhanced digital communication through Festo Automation Protocol, along with additional smart vacuum options, expanded I/O functionality, and new valve configurations that support reduced compressed air consumption. These developments allow machine builders to design more responsive and energy-efficient systems while simplifying overall automation architecture.

The VTUX platform was originally introduced as a cost-optimised solution for users requiring pneumatic solenoid valve manifolds in high-volume applications. Since its launch, the system has been progressively enhanced with additional capabilities that support a wider range of automation requirements.

At its core, the VTUX design focuses on modularity and efficiency. The valve modules can be arranged in flexible configurations, allowing engineers to tailor layouts to the specific needs of a machine. The compact and lightweight construction helps save installation space and reduces system weight, contributing to faster assembly and improved machine design flexibility.

One notable feature of the platform is the ability to divide manifolds into separate sections without requiring additional fieldbus nodes. This approach allows machine builders to optimise system layouts while simplifying maintenance and reducing system complexity.

The design also supports shorter pneumatic tubing runs, which helps minimise unused compressed air volumes. As a result, machines can achieve faster response times and improved cycle performance while lowering air consumption.

Beyond hardware design, Festo has focused on improving the digital communication architecture surrounding pneumatic systems. By integrating the VTUX with the Festo Automation Protocol, the platform enables more flexible communication structures and open system architectures.

This approach allows seamless coordination between electrical and pneumatic components within automated machines, supporting advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and control capabilities. With the addition of these features, the VTUX platform continues to evolve into a scalable automation solution suited for modern manufacturing environments where efficiency, connectivity, and adaptability are critical design priorities.
