Exide Technologies has expanded its Solition Material Handling portfolio with a 24V lithium-ion battery designed for pallet trucks used in retail, logistics and distribution operations. The battery is intended as an alternative to conventional EPzV and EPzS lead-acid batteries and is compatible with pallet truck models from manufacturers including Linde, Jungheinrich, Still, Crown and Logisnext.
The new battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology and incorporates an onboard charger, allowing operators to charge equipment during breaks or between tasks. This opportunity-charging capability can reduce the need for battery changes and eliminate the requirement for dedicated battery-charging rooms, depending on the operating setup.
Exide said the battery is designed to help businesses improve equipment availability and simplify the transition from lead-acid technology to lithium-ion systems. Its plug-and-play configuration supports retrofitting into existing 24V pallet truck applications, helping operators modernise their fleets without replacing the entire vehicle.
The Solition Material Handling 24V battery is maintenance-free and is designed to deliver more than 3,000 charge cycles under specified operating conditions. Its integrated safety features are intended to support reliable operation in demanding material-handling environments.
Magnus Ohlsson, Senior Business Director Motion at Exide Technologies, said many pallet truck operators wanted to benefit from lithium-ion technology without investing in a new fleet. “The Solition Material Handling 24V battery has been developed to support that transition, combining opportunity charging capability, maintenance-free operation and a long service life in a solution tailored to the needs of today’s retail, logistics and distribution environments,” Ohlsson said.
The battery has been designed and assembled in Europe and adds to Exide’s range of energy storage products for material-handling equipment. Its onboard charging system allows users to charge the battery using suitable power connections during operational breaks, supporting flexible charging schedules across shifts.
For logistics and distribution businesses, pallet trucks are used to move goods across warehouses, retail facilities and loading areas. Battery performance and charging requirements can affect equipment availability, particularly in operations where vehicles are used frequently throughout the day.
By offering a lithium-ion alternative that can be integrated into compatible existing equipment, Exide aims to help operators reduce routine battery maintenance and simplify charging arrangements. The long service life is also intended to support lower battery replacement requirements over time, subject to usage and operating conditions.
Exide Technologies provides battery storage solutions for automotive and industrial applications. Its Solition Material Handling portfolio serves equipment operators seeking battery systems for material-handling operations, including pallet trucks and other warehouse equipment. The 24V product broadens the company’s offering for customers seeking to introduce lithium-ion batteries into existing material-handling fleets while limiting operational disruption.
